Everglow
Coldplay
Humans never see clearly in the moment.
It's only after when you realize the joy was enough,
that later moment of clarity turning what glowed into what remains,
compressed and compacted into something permanent
a diamond now, still letting the light emerge.
Most people hear Everglow as a song about love continuing after someone is gone. I sorta understand why. It's a beautiful interpretation.
Not convinced it's the only one or even the best one.
Light generally refuses to belong entirely to where it emerged.
Perhaps memory behaves the same way.
Ordinary mornings pass by assuming meaning accumulates.
Experience seems to do something different. It crystallizes.
Moments continue returning with impossible clarity
While entire years dissolve into the background.
Not because they were louder or brighter.
Because something about their structure remained intact.
The diamond, the memory.
We spend our lives believing permanence belongs to objects.
It belongs to what's left, a memory stable enough to keep emerging.
Everglowing.
